Individuality is key to society progressing.
by Von Wiley
A reason this theme berst supports the novel is because everyone is basically counted as a whole and if your different your looke down upon. In the novel he makes a light and he knows its a great idea bt he thought of it on hisown so it wouldnt be considered a great idea. At the end of the novel Equality starts to live in the woods with his other individualist friend named the Golden one. He returns to his old city to tell about how you can live as an individual if you come back to the woods with him. With a society full of individualist who think on their own is better than a society who is simple minded and every one thinks one thought hence for individuality is the key to society progressing.

Individuality is needed to help society progress which is the theme in Antheme and is shown by the character. In the story Equality does things that by himself got completed and could have helped their society progress. “We made it. We created it … Our alone and only”. This quote shows how he still has the mind set of his brothers and he still cares for their society but him working by himself helped it progress. Individuality is the distinctive characteristic, and only Equality during this time was thinking of how to really improve their society to make life easier.

Original invention/creation is key to independence.
by Mariah Geletko The theme, Original invention/creation is key to independence is built by the character Equality 7-2521. From the beginning Equality is not like his brothers, he’s tall, there’s “evil” in his bones, and he’s cursed. They Equality 7-2521, and his brothers do have something in common though, they are both part of a collectivist society. When you’re a part of a collectivist society you are not an individual, everything is done for the group. Equality 7-2521 finds his independence through his invention of electricity. This helps him be in the dark and still be able to write by himself. “We made it. We created it. We brought it forth from the night of the ages. We alone. Our hands. Our mind. Ours alone and only.” This quote helps us as the reader to infer that Equality is thinking of himself as an individual, breaking away from this collectivist society, and gaining independence.

Tone Analyses Mariah Geletko In the book Anthem, Ayn Rand sets a satirical tone by her use of humor and exaggeration. Equality 7-2521 lives in a world where everyone is equal, no one goes against the “upper hand”, and everything is strictly planned out. “When the bell rings we all arise from our beds..the shadow on the sundial marks off a half-hour while we dress and eat our breakfast in the dining hall..then we go to work in the streets of the city, in five hours, when the sun is high we return to the home and eat our midday meal for which one half-hour is allowed..” By Ayn Rand’s use of the characters having to stick to a well planned out schedule, she is ridiculing the way things are in their collectivist world. We as readers know that this would never happen and that she exaggerates the collectivism.
Javon Jones
The tone of the book Antheme by, Ayn Rand is satirical due to the way she exaggerates things. How through the whole story once Equality sees what he looks like and how back where he is from there are no where he is from there are no mirrors and no one really knows what they look liked. “And then we stopped for, upon the blue of the sky below us we saw our own face for the first time”. This shows that there was nothing for him having to go through what he went through to get to where he was just to see himself was satire. In no world or time there was nothing to see your reflection. In this time period he speaks of glass and when glass is clean and shining you can see your self.
Each member of your group must write one analysis of a single, agreed upon tone. The group should decide on whether or not the tone changes over the course of the novel. If it does not, write about a single tone. If it does, write about the shift between two tones. Make sure to sign your analysis.
